We Believe In Second Chances
In June 2007, at the age of 19, Yong Vui Kong was arrested in Singapore in possession of 42.27g of heroin.
He had come from a poor family in Sabah, Malaysia, brought up by a single mother. Under-educated and illiterate, he went to Kuala Lumpur at a young age to find work. While there, he fell into the company of gangs, and was eventually convinced by his “Big Brother” to deliver “gifts” for him. These “gifts” turned out to be drugs.
Vui Kong, with his lack of education, did not know the danger of drugs, or the penalty that he would face.
He was sentenced to death in 2008. His last appeal hearing was dismissed on April 4, 2011. He has 3 months from that date to submit his clemency petition to the President. He is now 23 years old.
